Annotation:

In the Eastern Part of the Trialeti Range from paleoichnological point of view are interesting Middle Eocene volcanogenic-sedimentary formations of the r. Dzama gorge. In the lower part of this series (Likani suite), represented by bedded subalkaline basaltic volcanoclastites we determined following trace fossils: isolated spiral species (Spiroraphe), which belong to ethological group Pascichnia and curved and linear, sometimes branched, smooth tracks related to Repichnia ethological group and represent traces of animal crawling. Especially informative paleoichnologically were Upper Eocene rocks that crop out near v. Lisi. Presence of trace fossils here is related to arch part of Lisi anticline, which is built up by the rocks of “Nummulitic Tbilisi suite”. The latter is represented by alternation of sandstones and clays interbedded with marls. In the ichnocomplex of Tbilisi suite according to our preliminary determinations were singled out representatives of following ichnogenera: Chondrites Sternberg, Rhizocorallium Zenker, Zoophycos Massalongo, Paleodictyon (two ichnospecies: P. cf minimum Sacco and P. cf strozzii Meneghini). According to scheme of trace fossil bathimetric zonality by Seilacher, Lisi ichnocomplex comprises characteristic species for shelfal Cruziana facies (Rhyzocoralium), bathial Nereites facies (Paleodictyon), transitional between them Zoophycos facies (Zoophycos) and Chondrites facies (Chondrites) common for low-oxygen enviroment.
